According to the Department of Transportation, the Better Business Bureau and various news groups (see the “In the News Links” section below), the incidence of moving scams are on the rise.
Our advice here at ShipMyStuff...If you receive a dirt-cheap quote for a PROFESSIONALLY PACKED AND LOADED MOVE that is SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER than the others, then BUYER BEWARE.
How the Scams Work
- They give you a super-low low moving quote, and won't come out to your house to make sure it is accurate.
- They refuse to give a “Not to Exceed” quote.
- They demand payment in cash or cashiers check before delivery.
- They say it's taking way more space than quoted, essentially DOUBLING or TRIPLING the original estimate.
- They usually take forever to deliver your stuff, until you’re so desperate you’ll pay anything to get it back.
- They hold your stuff hostage until you pay the increased amount!
Ultimately. . . You pay their inflated price or you never see your stuff again!
